Gigs and things to catch up on.
This is Ollie's Roadie costume. His roadie name is "Strench" He used to tour back in the day.
Mel tried to say soaked and drenched at the same time when Ollie was wet and it came out Strench.
I did a gig with Ken's Pro Sound. The AF bnd was playing this gig. So I got to work the other side.
It was the Vacaville tree lighting. Fun time. Got a little too cold.
Also had the Xmas concerts with the Air Force band. Pretty simple this year. Most gigs I only need 4 microphones. Tough work if you can get it.
I did a gig for my friend Mike as well. It was with the Vacaville youth conservatory. My friend Matt Thomas works there teaching a percussion ensemble. His son plays in the piano group as well.
This was a challenging one as they like it loud on stage and the choir doesn't like to sing out.
I also needed some extreme eq on the Violin and viola. Cheap gear is difficult.
And for my last xmas concert I had Pasquale. I did this one last year in San Mateo. This gig can be tough. However I've gotten used to the long rehearsals before the show. It helps me really dial in the sound but at some point I'm done.
More Oliver stuff to follow. Merry Christmas.

Oliver and Things
For those that want to see more Ollie.
Here are some random photos from recent history.
Ollie enjoying "The Nap Pocket" he usually falls asleep in this thing.
Phoenix sunbathing. Enjoying the last bit of Summer.
Ollie and I muggin'
And again.
On his throne.

Gig Pic
I'm with Pasquale again at a country club. The woman in the fore ground wasn't watching the show.
LOU
The Pope
From the save the vault kickstarter. When Zappa voiced the pope on Ren and Stimpy.
The line prior was, "Quick your holiness, cling tenaciously to my buttocks"
How did they get away with this on kids tv?
LOU
Employing Vets
I had my buddy Jonathan build me a cool cable trunk that breaks down into smaller part. He had the time since he separated from the AF.
He has become a great wood worker and his work was top notch on this. I may have him build some more stuff soon.

A Deal?!
I don't like to take a stance on many things. I just saw this and it didn't seem right.
Save money if you get a flu shot. I hate that I'm required to get a flu shot every year.
And now that Oliver is around I don't know how I feel about vaccinations. With everything being for profit I question where others motives are when it comes to meds and such. Also whether I'm making the right choice for him as a parent.
Dammit I don't like being an adult.

Baby Snakes
They live in a hole. (Tiny Hole)
That is usually empty (Usually empty...Tiny too)
This live by a code.
That is probably SMPTE (Which stands for Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers)
That's what I think.
That keeps 'em in sync.
I think I'll give 'em a
Give 'em a
Give 'em a drink.
Warm and wet.
They make the best kind of pet.
I think Frank wrote this song about a patch bay on a studio console. The "Baby Snakes" were the patch cables.
Live in a hole (The patch bay)
Usually empty (In a normal or half normal patch bay you don't need to use the cable. Leaving the hole empty.)
The SMPTE reference also holds up as you would have to patch timecode to the last track of the tape machine to keep everything in sync.
Weird.

Marimba Delivery
This seemed like a good idea. Some members of the band needed to move a marimba but didn't want to drive the truck. It's only an expensive marimba who needs a case. Or even moving blankets for that matter.
LOU
The Lou'tch
I started brewing my own kombucha. It has been dubbed Lou'tch.
So far it isn't that good. Very sour.

Gigs!!
I keep forgetting to take pictures at the gigs I do. Here are a few I remembered.
Super nice guy and a fun show. This was at the mountain winery with LJP. I was doing monitors for this one.
Another wedding with Jumpstart. The Danley rig was once again top notch.
An odd ball gig I did. It was for the Mayoral reelection in Benicia. Peppino D'Agustino called me for it. I assumed it was only him. I ended up having to provide a mic for a bunch of speeches by politicians. Peppino was cool as anything though. I hope to work with him more.

CB Tour Aug
I'm on the road with the Concert Band. I got the band to buy a couple x32 consoles and I've been mixing on my tablet with mixing station. It's so nice!!
The show weren't that well attended.
The show weren't that well attended.
But the crew was killing it. This was the load out time from the last note until we closed the truck. It was a new record for us.
This was Lee and Gary's job every night. To give me the high five when they put away the wedges.
Pretty straight forward tour.

Big Spider
Found this guy in storage at the band hall. I think he has been eating all the roaches and things running around the building. He was a real monster.

Caught Up
Greetings dear readers,
I've finally caught up on my blogging for now.
I know I will probably fall behind again but I want this to be the top post.
Here is the link to Oliver's picture gallery on Flickr
https://www.flickr.com/photos/loukohley/sets/72157671697063182
His site Oliverkohley.com is working. This links to pictures and a couple youtube videos.
This is mostly for the family who have been asking for more pictures.
More to come.

New Gigs and The P-Dubs
Paul and I had to run down to San Jose to do a store credit trade for the AF band. We decided to get some breakfast before we left. There is a new place I like at the PAX terminal on base. They have some organic veggies and such. Paul had them create a breakfast that we have taken to calling the P-Dubs BFast. It veggies scrambled in eggs with an “X” of bacon and pico de gallo. Very Tasty
So we head down to San Jose. Once we did the trade I was talking to their audio shop guy. I asked if he does any production work in the area as Mel and I are trying to get down to Santa Cruz and San Jose is an OK commute. He pointed me to LJ productions in San Jose. I called them and asked if they had a need for an audio humans. We had a nice chat.
A week later I was on a gig at Mountain Winery in Saratoga. It was awesome.
I did monitors for the opening act Lucy Wainwright Roche who was great.
I got to actually use a digico in the wild.
Then the Indigo Girls went on. They were very cool.
Here is the guitar land that they had setup.
I loved this gig so much as everyone was a total pro. It just felt good and like something I want to move toward. We shall see.

Gig Pic
This is Pasquale again. I did this one last year with my new Danley rig which I have since upgraded. It was much more effortless this year. I really enjoyed mixing this gig.
LOU
Nerd Goggles
I’ve been playing around with some VR goggles for my phone. It’s a cheap little thing they sell on Amazon. I’ve been using it to look up old houses I used to live. It’s really cool to look around your old neighborhood.
LOU
Beach Boys
My old friend from Winchester, John Bracken was nearby on the road with the Beach Boys. I went out to say hi and to check out the gig. I got to meet Mike Love which was cool.
I also met some dudes from 4X audio in Sacramento. I’m trying to connect with them later for more gigs since I’m on the area.
LOU
Punk Squirrel
I let Phoenix out in the backyard and this squirrel was taunting him. I caught him spying down on me when I went to check it out.
LOU
Gig Pic
The 2nd Annual Travis Music-fest. My first gig back after Ollie was born. It wasn’t as huge a production as last year but a good time was had by all. I had to leave early to be home with our baby boy.
LOU
Candy Bar Game
Mel’s friend Melissa threw Mel a baby shower. This was a fun game she setup. The idea was to match the name of the candy bar to the phrase.
LOU
Cuc Skywalker
Another Co-op find. So good.
I’ve started a sticker collection on the divider in the van. This is the first.
LOU
Lizard
I found this little lizard in the back yard he reminded me of Leon, my pet lizard when I was young.
LOU
Gig Pic
I took out my gear for this gig with the Jazz combo. I’ve been using mixing station on my android tab;let and it has changed my world. It’s the software I’ve been after for so long but haven’t been able to make myself. Oh and the band was ok too.
LOU
The Van
Oh baby. I had to make an upgrade from my pickup. My S-10 has served me well for the past 10 years. I sold it to a nice guy who was buying it for his grandson as a first car.
I love this truck.
But my new ride is more suited to what I’m doing. Behold the LOU VAN!!
It’s high top Nissan NV and it is amazing.

900 Posts
So I'm way of course from what I was planning. (No Surprise)
So for my 900th post here he is,
I'm still setting everything up. For the family and anyone else that whats to see pictures and video of this guy it will be on Oliverkohley.com
That's right my son already has a website! He is applying for a job next month.
Here is a quick link to the photo album in case you can't wait. The website will always direct to some form of picture of update about him until he is old enough to take over the site for himself. It may be a while.

Natch Graffiti
I saw this at the Sacramento Co-op. It’s fitting graffiti for the folks that might frequent a food co-op. In case you can’t read it, it reads “Beets not Beef”

Mel's GMa
This is a sculpture of Mel’s Grandmother Jean. It was on display with some other things of hers at the Sacramento Historical Society. They were entering it into the archive and to preserve her memory and legacy that Jean had.
I never got to meet Jean as she passed away before I met Mel but I imagine she was a very interesting personality based of everything I’ve seen.

Gig Pic
Pasquale Esposito. I forget where but this gig was tough.
I used the house Presonus console and it shit the bed several times. Yet another reason why I've purchased and maintained my own gear.

Mel's Aunt's Place
Mel's cousin Molly was in town so we all met up at her Aunt and Uncles place. It's a really nice property on the rivah. (Cajun accent implied)
They have three dogs there who are kooky and fun. I also got to see Molly's kids Marilyn and Miles who are just adorable and are giving me a glimpse of things to come.
Here's Beau, Miles and Tabitha doing their things.
Miles notices the camera.
Beau hiding in his little den. He stays cool in this bush on hot days.
Love it,
