My Colorado Adventure

I'm out with the academy band in Colorado for their xmas concerts. And it is COLD!!!!

So I started off in the usual fashion by doing some geocaching. However I had to don my ninja suit as it was so cold. I've been in California for a long enough time to have lost my tolerance for anything below like 40 degrees.

I found a total of about 10 caches. There were some really good ones.

Here was one near the hotel.

And another in this huge park next to a small creek. You can almost see pike's peak in the background.

I then went on the road with the audio crew. A lot of really nice and cool guys. We went to the first hotel in Fort Collins. Stan Sakamoto (the audio guy out here) knew somebody that was running a popular sushi place in town. We got the hookup there. Absolutely awesome place. It was called Suehiro. Ken order the sushi boat a massive amount of all kinds of different sushi.

Tasty.

It really snowed a bit while on the road. While traveling to Greeley. We saw a guy in the ditch and attempted to help him get out.

His tires were bald so I wouldn't be surprised if he got stuck again.

And finally my view of the concert.

And here's a shot with all the kids and santa on stage.

I'm sick of xmas and it's Dec 8th.

That's Mr. Truck

Matt and I went to get our flu shots and saw this guy's licence plate. Just in case you weren't aware this guy drives a truck he also named it or himself. "MRTRUCK"

Also the windshield is cracked not the camera lens.

Finishing Up Another Tour

So we just played our last gig in palm springs and I wanted to finish posting the pictures I've taken.

First some of my geocaching pictures. While I was out walking and caching I found randomly an old NYC transit authority token. What is it doing way out here I have no idea. I found a larger sized cache nearby and decided to donate it. Who knows where it will end up from here.
The next photo was from the previous day of caching with Brandon. It's just a really great view of the mountains in Palm Springs.

Now to the ridiculous. (Ridickles!!)
I've been working on the band facebook page. Which now has a domain mobilityband.com (Tell your friends) I had to verify somethings on facebook. I thought these two words went too well together to be coincidence.

And my last photo is of Nate. Being the path of least resistance kind of guy he can be, ran a 100' extension cable to get power 5 feet away. Functional? Yes. Practical? Not quite.

What's going on?

It's been a while since I've posted. (nothing new there)

I recently got back from a random trip home. I took a space avaliable flight to New Jersey and my mother and grandmother picked me up. I was home for about 4 days and they were jam packed. I fixed up some computer issues for my folks and they got a netflix blu-ray player that is really slick. Now they can do the instant watch thing.

I was home not more than 3 days and then went out on a tour of Las Vegas and Palm Springs.

Nate and I have been driving the truck. It was a loooooong drive down to Vegas.

It's been a fun tour and I'm about to finish it up. We have been playing a lot of schools, entertaining the children.

I've also been made the media guy for the rock band here at Travis so please check out our facebook page. I've been putting up lots of video and hope to have more soon.

Hopefully I'll be able to keep this blog up as well.

Good Eats

I've been eating some interesting food lately.

First up was a weird thing I had at the bowling alley on base. I went in wanting a burger and I got the Moco Loco.

A hamburger patty atop rice and brown gravy which also held an egg on top. Tasty but unexpected.

The second being one of my all time old favorites from a trip back home. (hopefully more on this later.)

The Mione's stuffed meat pizza. This was one I used to get all the time in high school and although I've changed since then it's nice to know this is still the same.

That's St. Luke To You

I was handed this hotel card key folder recently. It may be the absolute worst misspelling of my name I've ever seen. Strange that it then describes this non-existent Luke when printed this way.

Dr. Crunkenstein

Let me hear it for me! Niko got really drunk on our last outing. I think it's because he skipped dinner. Anyway here we see him struggling to stay awake. Or he's surprised about something boring.

This other photo he asked for a bottle opener to which I twisted off the cap and handed it back to him. Also notice the one eye open look he has.The other classic moment was when Niko when to check the time and looked at the wrong wrist first. Preston called him out before I could.

We love you Dr. Crunkenstein, your crunk is the best!

Motorhead!!

I went to see Motorhead in SF the other day. They rocked so hard. I imagine it's easy to rock when you are louder than anything EVER!

Jeremy could not stop texting people long enough to enjoy the show.

I then had my face melted by Lemmy and a harmonica during their one acoustic song, "Whorehouse Blues"

And finally I got the first 30 seconds of Ace of Spades one of the only songs I recognized. I thought my camera mic was going to catch fire from the level but you can recognize the song.

Halloween '06 Baby!

I went over to Wendy's for a tasty frosty and in the parking lot I saw this.

I have to wonder if this car has been abandoned here or if it is still driven around. A sad reminder of the best Halloween ever.

LOU

Are you sure you're in High School?

Michelle was playing at the Vacaville Jazz Festival at which I was running monitors with KPS. It was an early morning. I was unloading the truck and lifting speakers by 8am. Our first band of the day was the Vaca High Jazz band.

Apparently Michelle managed to get into this exclusive gig on Bari Sax no less. I heard they played with Wynton Marsalis later that weekend. Maybe it is a higher profile gig than it sounded.

LOU

Benefit Concert

The AF rock band went undercover as a civilian band to play for a benefit concert at a winery in Clarksburg.

However in the usual AF band style we followed a dancing troop. At least they gave free beer with the show which is atypical of AF gigs. At least most of them.

Also Nate let me sit in on a song he didn't feel like playing and I got to wow both of the audience members with my bass fumblings.

Funtastic Tunes

This 3-piece band toy maker must have a distorted sense of reality.

1. A 3 piece band should be something like Drums, Bass, Guitar. This is recorder, guitar, Harmonica/trumpet/key-tar thing-a-ma-bob. (That's a lot of dashes)

2. I hardly think the Let's Jam! sign is appropriate. It should be "Let's Go Home and Cry" or "Let's Get A Real Job" (The choking hazard is good though)

3. This product is neither a toy, an instrument, or of any use to any person. Therefore it really shouldn't exist. Yet there it is!

LOU

Chaqito

I think I deleted the photo I took of this little cute dog but I had to mention this. We saw this little Chihuahua running around at a busy intersection. So Julia and I pull over and scoop him up. This was near the high school so we talked to these kids walking by and they said he stays near by but they don't feed him.

I love dogs so I had to at least keep him from getting hit by a car. So we take him home but by this time animal control was closed. So we put him up in the garage with some food and water. He whined all night. Poor Phoenix kept trying to get close to the garage to get near him. Phoenix was really calm around this dog which was really nice to see.

I called animal control the next day. They were looking for this dog the night before they told me. I just hope someone adopts him as he was a real sweetheart.

LOU

Painting Pitbull

I just found this picture of Phoenix from when we were painting the house. I think it was more work keeping him from leaning on the freshly painted walls and getting his butt all painty. His tail still has paint on the tip from when he was helping paint 2 weeks ago.

Lucky Car Wash

Being a new member of the facebook crowd I'm reading what other people post. Michelle (who is president of the Band Boosters. For a middle school not the AF Band) was having a car wash at the Lucky grocery store down the street from my house. I never miss an opprtunity to support my local band geek. That and I really needed to wash my car. Or I really needed the band geeks to wash my car.

So I pull up after being directed by what I thought was the guy in charge.(He scared me a little too much for a car wash.) I am immediately presented with a bake sale to which I was happy to give a few more dollars toward. I got a rice krispie treat with what I assumed was m&m's. I bit into it expecting chocolate and got cinnamon. They were red hots. Who does that?

I then say hi to Mike who is working the street corner like an old pro. Oddly he wasn't hold a car wash sign. Hmmm?

$12 dollars well spent.

Mantis Visit

I went out to get a burrito during lunch the other day. When I was walking back to my car I was surprised to see a praying mantis on my name tag. I swear he was staring right at me. I tried to get him to take off when he started crawling toward my face. So I let out a girlish scream and flailed around until he flew away.

Why do I admit to all my most embarrassing moments?

Brandon's Loose Grip

We were playing Wii in my room the other night up here in Spoakane WA. As usual we were drinking while this was happening. We got into an epic game of Frolf or Grisbee. (Frisbee Golf)

Brandon took a shot and fucking trashed it. The wii remote hit the ceiling and everything that could seperate from it did. I know I'm supposed to wear the safety strap but I try to live dangerously.

The damn thing hasn't work the same since.

It's an Ag-venture!!!!

I forgot to post this one. It was at the San Mateo fair. Nothing says fun to me like Agriculture and adventure. I also think I owned one of those pedal tractors when I was a kid. I remember it being ridiculously heavy.

LOU

Crushed Power

We were playing a gig in Spokane WA near the airport. We setup and got everything ready. There were guys running a scissor lift behind the band hanging a US flag. The back-up beeper was on while they were rehearsing. Preston commented it was a very Spinal Tap moment.

So we left to go change. Jason got a call that they had squashed a power distro of ours. I expected the worst. Fortunately it was just a power strip. However had the scissor lift rolled another 6 inches I could have lost one of my speakers or Jason's pedal board would have been toast.

Oh well here is the aftermath.

San Mateo County Fair

The rock band played the San Mateo County Fair Today and I had a few highlights. The gig was rather uneventful for me as they had provided sound. Thank you Speeda Sound. I did however catch this shot from the crowd.

Click on it to see slightly more detail.

My other main highlight was Jiggle foot.

It was a foot massager that cost a quarter. It was interesting as it was just a vibrating metal plate that you rest your feet on. Or have your feet "Jiggled"

I can only imagine some of the applications of a large metal vibrating plate. Please feel free to comment. I'm sure your mind went there as did mine.

Skywalker Sound

I was invited to attend a microphone technique seminar at Skywalker Ranch by my wonderful friend at KPS. It was a very studio oriented seminar so I didn't get a lot out of it but it did get me thinking about new ideas for micing some things live.

Anyway,

I found this interesting cable there. It looked like an extension cord. You know the thick orange type but it was a mic cable.

Sure enough when I opened it up it was extension cord cable. I think I've finally cracked the secret to their hi quality sound. I'll soon be marketing my own THX certified extension...I mean....Hi-Fi mic cables.

Rehearsals

I went to the rodeo rehearsals today. I had no real job other than I speak "roadie" however surprisingly the roadies spoke really good english and were highly intelligent. So I sat around and watched the festivities.
Here is the simulated pallet drop coming down from chain motors hung from the rafters of the hangar.

And here we see Mike using the strange headset device to communicate with the other roadies. It's even more entertaining seeing him on stage playing with this contraption on.
