Cool down

After sweating through everything I was wearing for training this seems to be my usual recovery position. Note: this particular cool down was mid day as my uniform was already soaked by 11am. LOU

Beer Vacation

The drinking ban at ACST was temporarily lifted for Saturday night. After our training on Saturday Nate, Preston and I made a bee line for the van to do a quick class six beer run, while Jon procured ice. We had to do this quick as the Colonel wanted his van back. So after scoring some tasty brews (Yuengling!) we headed back to the dorms. Just as we were icing down the beers the colonel shows up looking for his van. We akwardly greeted him in the room with beers in hand.

The beer was now iced down in a bag Jon had brought for this very purpose. Which we double bagged in a green dry bag. However with 18+ beers and large amount of ice the bag got very heavy. A light bulb then flickered on in Jon's head. You have a rolling suitcase Lou. The bag of beers did not fit so a web belt served to close up the mobile cooler contraption, complete with storage pockets for chips bug spray etc., and we were ready for our beer vaction. It was absolutely what we needed. LOU

More ACST

Still here at ACST. And it's only going to get worse. Night Ops was pretty fun. We got to go traipsing out in the woods in the dark with night vision goggles on. It's amazing how much you can see. The following day we did the DAGR GPS training. I being the geek that I am picked it up pretty quickly. So we end up doing more traipsing through the woods looking for way points. My feet were sore and blistered but it was a fun hike. I'm really glad that I'm here with other band guys and not any other AF weirdos. Here are some of the limited pictures I've been able to take.

This one is Rachel showing Dustin some of the things she learned in combative training but ended up looking a bit perverted and made us a bit uncomfortable.

Jon ruff in full gear and an awkward picture of him getting "helped" with his "gear?"

And finally while Nate and I were looking for a good beer hang spot we found Jim practicing in a building that was being renovated. Any private room will make a decent practice room I guess.

Til next time rest easy America the band is out there defending your freedom. LOU

ACST

I'm currently at ACST. This is deployment training for most people who are deploying. They have us do a number of different activities in order to prepare us for our deployment. So far I've done a tactics course, a live fire course and tonight I do night ops. The tatics course was basic combat movements.

The live fire was fun. We were taken to a firing range with pop-up targets I feel I did pretty well or at least better than when I have to qualify on an M16 any other time. The funny thing was my sight was way way off. I fired the first four rounds when we were zeroing the weapon and they didn't come close to the target. But they were all grouped together. The instructor thought I was an idiot and couldn't shoot for shit. So he doesnt correct my sight. We fire three more rounds. Again I group in the same rough area. This time we make a huge correction to the gun sight. The next three rounds hit the target or came extremely close. With one more slight correction I was nailing it. When I fired at the pop-up targets I thought I was doing pretty good I just couldn't hit the two targets at 300 meters. But everything closer I was able to hit. I hope to get the score soon just to see how good or how poorly I did.

I'll be up late tonight wearing night vision goggles. All this military training and gear make me a big brute man. Grrrr.

I have a wide open knowledge hole. LOU

NJ Airport

Here is Nate chillin' at the NJ airport. We flew in for ACST ( more on that soon) and we had to break up the group on different shuttles. This turned into a 20 min ordeal. Nate showed me the ways of just not getting involved. Im currently training I'll give a run down later. LOU

Pretzel Dog

A bit suggestive dont you think? Who wants a bite? LOU

Sound Hat

Now you dont have to choose between wearing a hat and listening to your ipod. Or firguring out how to put your headphones in your ears while wearing a hat. Fucking brilliant. I wonder how many people buy these. LOU

Journey?

Here is my view of Evolution. They are a Journey cover band. They were really good if you like Journey. The lead singer sounded alot like Steve Perry. The banter between tunes was cheesy. They were naming the tunes title and trying to say something clever but it ended up being cheesy. A good show overall though. LOU

Gay Hitler?

We had a party for Troy's going away. Jamie dared me to cut my mustache into a hitler esqe look. It only takes me a few drinks and some beads and I'll do almost anything. Don't read into that. LOU

ACST

Im getting ready to go to New Jersey in a week or so. So we were issued a helmet flak vest and other junk. I think this is a good look for me. The helmet makes me look hardcore. LOU
