This is Zoid.

Unfortunately one of the first few posts has to pain me so. I found out today that my dog past away. I never really could handle death very well. Especially with someone as special as zoid. It's like loosing a very dear friend. A friend that you grew up with and made you happy and always loved you no matter what. I don't know if anyone outside your family can have such an intense fondness for you like this dog did for everyone in my family. I will miss him.

I think the best way for me to honor him would be to remember some of the best stories about this dog and what made him so great. The first thing I have to tell is Zoid was a springer spaniel. Which may sound ordinary but what really made him unique was he was the runt of the litter. Because of this Zoid was half as tall as any regular springer. And when he got excited his clipped tail would wag so much that it caused his whole butt to wag with excitement. While all this tail wagging and excitement was going on Zoid would kind of bend his body like he was trying to catch the tail. This was not his intention. Instead he would curl into a U shape and walk with you in whatever direction you were going. Usually into the house after you get home from wherever you went.

My father Bob got him when he was a year or less old. He was originally supposed to be a bird dog as are many springers. His name at the time was "Higgins". When he was taken out to hunt his previous owner found out he was very gun shy. So a man my father knew Mr. Queen got Higgins the runt springer. After Zoid promptly peed all over the carpet in Mr. Queen's house he was given to my father. Bob named him Spaz-zoid or Zoid for short on account of the dogs personality.

I first met Zoid when Bob was having a party at his house. He and my mother had just met. During the party there really wasn't much for us kids to do. (I was around 13 or 14 at the time.)
I was siting in one of the large rattan chair with a large cushion in it. And Zoid whom I'd never met before jumps right into my lap and lays right across me. I was told by Bob that I was in Zoids chair. Zoid didn't seem to care/notice.

One of our favorite stories in the family is when Zoid who lived with Bob about a mile from our house. My mother and Bob were dating at the time. Zoid had never walked over to our house from Bob's. He had only ridden in Bob's truck to either location. Somehow Zoid got out of the house over at Bob's and ran off. Something very uncharacteristic of this dog. He made the trek from Bob's house over to our house where my mother found him. How this dog managed to find his way I'll never figure out.

Zoid lived a very long and happy life. I believe he was 15 years old. I hope to have a relationship with my dog now like I had with Zoid. I know he was a big part of my high school years and after I went to college I always looked forward to going home on long weekends and breaks to see him. I will always have the memories and fun times with this dog and he will be missed by me and the rest of my family. Rest in peace Zoid.
