I've had a hell of a weekend. I was doing a gig at Dimitri's club and the band was supposed to play until midnight. They just kept going an going. I had agreed to help my friend Mike the next morning and had to get up early.
I started complaining to the owner that the band was running really late and showed no signs of stopping. (Not only do I have to stay later for these thing I also don't get paid anything to have to stay late. Apparently some people/musicians give it away for free.)
I was getting quite agitated and let Dimitri know I felt it was unfair and I needed to put my foot down on this stuff.
Anyway with 5 hours sleep I met up with Mike and went to his clients house and help mount a TV to the wall and install an "Around Sound" system. This is a term Mike coined as it could not be hooked up properly to be surround sound and the folks that bought it didn't seem to care.
It was a very humbling day for me as I saw a very nice house and people that were very wasteful with their money spending it on things like this sound system when they either don't care enough to do it right and it's more for show/effect. It made me appreciate the things you have and also made me feel better about all the time I pour into my own projects in order to do it right.
I also wanted to thank Mike semi-publicly on this blog for the work.
I then had to go back to Dimitri's for the Sunday night blues Jam which ran late last time and sure enough ran late this time. And after I lowered my price so Dimitri would hire me more often. It seems it may have backfired as I'm working more hours per gig but getting paid less. I hope this is a trend I can either stop now or walk away from.
So thanks again Mike for the work and the lesson whether you meant to give me one or not.
