My New Mixer

The control surface leaves something to be desired but the weight is nice.

Mothra Strikes Back

From a long time ago

and in Hawaii (at the bottom of the post)

I was visited once again by a giant moth. This one was a little friendlier or at least more docile.

Spotted at the house. You can see the curled up tongue. Really neat. I'm still amazed by bugs this big.

A West Coast Visit

A month or so after my trip back east, Sarah and Dan made their way out west.

Dan took most of the pictures so he isn't in most.

Here we went to China Beach in SF.

Me waving, Mel catching up, and Sarah hanging. Sarah isn't showing much here.

A Panorama of the beach. Click to enlarge.

A creepy bird near the beach that let me get real close to it.

From Twin Peaks lookout in SF. I really like this photo as all of us are in it and the view is crazy.

After a fun day in the city we had Afghani food for dinner and then split. Sarah and Dan were on the way home. Mel had to get home to take care of the animals.

They were happy to see us.

A Trip Home

Hot off my trip from Portland I had more travel and gigs to do. My good friend Ralph once again invited me out for the Alumni weekend at Georgetown. It was enjoyable but I would much rather do music.

A shot from the Briggs Library. It could have been the set of Harry Potter and you wouldn't have known the difference. (Well maybe)

The other gig I worked with Ralph was Israelfest in DC. Nothing to huge but I got to do music.

Some shots from my tent at FOH.

Me stepping away from the desk. I believe my mix was kosher.

A flyer from the event.

Some of the fun stuff at Ralph's warehouse. An orange Ampeg 8x10. I had a black one in college but the orange tolex really make it sound so much better.
With matching heads. and a Marshall in the tone enhancing orange as well.

I also got to see some family while I was in town. We all hung out at Sarah's place in Owings Mill.

Here's Kate and I heading to the store or something. I was wearing a velcro poo hat. (Don't ask)

I also got to hang out and eat guac with my niece Charolette. Nice to take a day or so and see the family. Speaking of which Sarah is about to have a baby as well. I'll be Uncle Lou for the third time.

He's Still Alive

Greetings readers.

In my usual fashion I have neglected my blog a great deal and plan to catch up with it.
This post is me doing just that. I apologize (mostly to Nate) for no generating content for a while. I have been a hustlin'. Gigs, Travel, Gear, and many other important events (foreshadow much?)

So I'll be posting soon. This one is to make me accountable to everyone.

Good to be back. (?)

Portland

I like Portland a lot. There is so much coolness happening.

I did a successful geocaching run 4 for 4. Later I went over to Ground Kontrol. A retro arcade with lots of great old games and some killer pinball.

I remember playing Burgertime on the InTelevision. I had no idea there was an actual arcade version.

 Simpsons and Pinball? I'm IN!

Gig pic.
A fair stage. Notice the lack of audience. My Rio stagebox shit the bed and I had to repatch the entire console.
Here's the culprit. The board popped out of it's slot while we were getting the cases on stage. I found it rolling around inside while I was checking it out.

I texted Mike about it and we had a nostalgia for analog gear as it was tough. He dropped some wisdom to which I made a meme.
Everyone who texts me be prepared to have this image with various wisdom attached.

Thanks

I had yet another birthday. (I thought I did this like 12 months ago.)

Mel made a sign out of some stick on letters. She filled in what was missing. I couldn't even tell.

In addition to the texts and emails from the family,
Kate also sent

Dae's dog (Mattingly...yes the baseball player) at Mike's house.
He had a gouge in his mouth and needed surgery. He was so pitiful.

Flowers. She Broke My Heart

I was out walking Phoenix and this girl comes up to us.
She was running around the park by herself. I sent a picture to Paul. He gave me the name Flowers. I wish I could have kept her but Phoenix would not get along with her.
She was so thin. I fed her everything I could. I posted an ad to Craigslist lost and found.
A guy named Walker messaged me and said he found a Dachshund. He offered to take her as I had her on the back porch.

Walker took them both to the shelter the next day. I had two different "owners" contact me the next day. I'm hoping one of them went and got her. She was such a sweety.

Good luck out there Flowers.

Pink Floyd tribute band at the Deville. This is as close as I'll get to mixing Pink Floyd.
The show was great. I thought it sounded damn good too.

Travis Music Fest

So the base commander at Travis wanted to have a music festival on base. 5 bands with Smashmouth headlining. So it falls to the band audio crew to make it happen.

We needed a lot of gear to make this show go. Here's the audio truck.

My view from monitor beach early in the day.

Here's from FOH.

We put up our "dash" array and a pair of CQ boxes off to the left 4 double 18's in the middle. This rig was killing. I was running 105db A weighted and the subs were vibrating my clothes from FOH. I was told to turn it up even louder.

Any other time I want to keep it reasonable but our rig was topped out. I thought it sounded great.
This was a big audio weekend for me. I setup the PA from 7am until about 3 and then went to mix a punk rock show at the Deville.

Next day was another 16 hours of bands and schlepping gear. (BTW spell correct works for schlepping)

Angry Muscle Dude

Saw this at the doctor's office. The guy seems pretty angry with clenched fists and general dissatisfaction with having his skin removed.

Good Morning

Me and Phoenix in the morning. Right after I took this picture he put his paw on my mouth as if to say, "Shut up and go back to sleep"

What Did Audio Dudes Do In The 90s?

Mike and I were at the Fairfield theater going through some gear to get ready for a show. We had to open the series 5 console.

Mike and I could barely get the lid off this console.
How on earth did guys move this shit before digital consoles?

Mike contemplating this question and many more.

Morning Selfie

Kate and I have been sending selfie pictures back and forth for comedic purposes.

This was my favorite morning one. It's me say "Hu-Whaaa?"

Some Fun Time Off

Phoenix and I hanging in the back yard.

Mel and I when we went to Folsom Lake on a day off. Nice little hike around the area. Did a little geocaching (Say what you will Nate)

I saw this at Target. If you can see why this is wrong then we are most definitely friends.

Mike bought me a 6 pack of "Get Up Offa That Brown" Ale. That evening I had been planning to watch the James Brown movie. I couldn't think of a better time to enjoy Getting up offa both those things.

Gig Pics

The first two are from the Irish festival in Dublin CA. The Yonders played two early mornings over the weekend. I got to mix on a nice JBL SRX rig which sounded great.

We had another show at the Deville theater. I was then asked to pick up some other gigs there. Which has been great. It's a really great venue. Here's a shot from monitor beach for a metal show.

Another for a Rolling Stones tribute band.

Really enjoying mixing some shows here. Really getting my chops back. More music please!!
