Cryptic Posting Extravanganza

Greetings loyal reader of my blog. I am writing this post to inform you of an experiment I'm attempting.

I don't use facebook very often but tend to read whats going on with friends of mine. I find the occasional humblebrag annoying but expected when you write about yourself...
...like I do. (humblebrag!)

I am however annoyed by the comment baiting cryptic messages I see more of. So I've decided to go the very passive aggressive route and begin posting cryptic and baiting messages myself. Hopefully with as much sarcasm and irony as I possibly can.

I hope to have at least one a day. I'll begin posting as soon as I publish this blog.

I wish I knew what to do after what happened.

Geocaching On Wingman Day

The base was having their quarterly wingman day. So the band went to the park in the area. We were supposed to go hiking or something in groups. So I take Matt and Eddie geocaching.

This was a great place for it as there were a lot of caches in the area and it had some great scenery.
I didn't take any pictures of the caches but there was a great one that had been drilled into a rock and corked. I had never seen anything like that. We went 3 for 4. Not a bad day. I'm approaching 100 caches. Hopefully soon.

The picture I did take was on top of the large hill overlooking the lake and most of Fairfield.

Great view.

Fitz

Mike had played some new music that he had recently acquired. One of the groups was Fitz and the Tantrums. They're really cool. They sound like old school jams from motown. So we went to see their show last night. The concentration of hipsters was nearly at a critical mass. Fortunately Mike, Jeremy, Mel and I were there to help balance things out.

Great live show and not too loud. A great left turn of the evening was when Mel went to the bar area to have a drink while I was in the crowd. A guy starts talking to her. He asks, "Do you have a boyfriend?" She says yes. He asks, "Is he big? Will he beat me up for talking to you?"

Mel replies,"No, We're normal"

SF Zoo

After the Maker Faire Mel and I stayed at the Marines' Memorial hotel in San Francisco. It was nice (i.e. Cheap) I went to get some pizza at this place near by called Piraat. They had a house pale ale that was rather tasty and hit the spot.

Aahh. Refreshing.

We went to the zoo the next day and it was really cool. I haven't been (or don't remember going) to a zoo this nice. We went to the children's zoo first. The prairie dogs were hilarious. Here they are all piled up sleeping on a warm day.

I think they got up to 8 in the pile at one point.

We walked by the birds exhibit and nearly musted this ninja owl. He was spying on all the people passing by.

There were a few new baby animals as well. It's hilarious how the adults carried around the younger ones.

With gorilla I expect this but anteaters.

I also couldn't help but have Mel take a picture by one of the many photo backdrops through-out the zoo.

How are my antlers?

Maker Faire

I finally went to the bay area maker faire this year. I'd always wanted to go but was never home or had something else going on. I'm so glad I could finally go.

For those who don't know Maker faire is a huge craft and DIY festival. It's put on by make magazine and is basically a huge ton of people doing various projects like on this blog.

Here are some pictures.

One of the many amazing LEGO models. Simply amazing. I don't remember making anything this intricate even at my highest level of Lego craftsmanship.

A Bat Mariba. It functioned better as an odd ball fence. The bats really didn't make musical tones. It looked as though it had been tinkered with by many little hands. Still a cool art project.

Some of the awesome pyro sculptures. They were rigged to huge buttons so you could make it breath fire on demand. It's hard to beat having a button that triggers a flamethrower. I need more of those.

The tesla demonstration. This guy was wearing chainmail playing a guitar he had rigged to trigger the tesla coil. It was A-MAZING!!!!

Finally I saw Andy Graham (Who turns out is my roommate's cousin) playing an instrument of his own invention. The Slaperoo. It's just a short sample but this thing sounds awesome.

I really enjoyed going to the Maker Faire as I felt like the dumb one. Many of the people I talked to were mega-brains. This really gave me inspiration to take on bigger projects and hopefully learn some new stuff.

Guest Writer Nate Bersee

Wait, wait…hold on a minute. Do you hear that? Listen closer. Sounds like laziness to me.
Or more commonly referred to as "the sound of Lou not writing his blog".

While there are a multitude of dorky/creepy/weird activities that could be keeping him from blogging, methinks it probably has to do with one of the following:

1. Lou has already assumed his alter-ego "Forthwind Writingham" and has since left for his annual cross country tour of the summer renaissance fair circuit to sell his handcrafted merkins. 2. He is picking through Dee Snyder's bathroom trash in some sort of twisted geo-caching treasure hunt where he's hoping to find a memento from the days of cock-rock past.
3. OR, he is stuck in what I like to call a "geek loop",where Lou starts building seemingly complex electronic apparatuses that really don't do anything other than blink and beep at you.

So, that's why I feel the need to be like "Yo Lou, I'm jacking your blog! Yeah, you just gotsed jackd! WHAT!", and provide some much needed leadership.

Anyway, in keeping with the theme of sarcasm and irony that so pervades this blog, check out
this ridiculous product I found the other day. It's really just a glorified box cutter to help the user
open "all those stubborn plastic packages". I'll let you guess how it was packaged.

New Game?

This really changed the name of this game with a misplaced sticker.

Porn Fridge

Mike and I ended up at the local liquor store near the house.

One of their fridges was either not working or purposely re-utilized to house the porn dvds.
The best part was the glass door were covered with beer advertisements but instead we found a wealth of porno.

I'll take Ass O' Plenty please.

Cottonwood?

Mel and I were searching for a place to eat dinner after the falls. We ended up in Redding CA. There was nothing appealing to either of us. So we continue down the road to an even more empty town. Cottonwood CA.

We went to a nice little restaurant for dinner called the cottonwood eatery. A more obvious and fitting name there never was.

I had been craving a nice piece of cake. Like the kind I used to get back in the day at the chow hall.
After we finished eating the waitress brought me the biggest piece of cake I've ever seen.

Somehow Mel was able to tell her about my birthday without me knowing.

This definitely satisfied my cake-lust for the next year and then some.

3 Decades

So I recently turned 30. It's been an interesting and depressing experience.

I talked to my mom on the morning of my birthday. She told me I wasn't actually born until 7pm east coast time. That means 4pm west coast time.

Mel took me to Burney Falls for my birthday. This is the biggest waterfall I've ever seen. We went for a nice hike in a beautiful area around the falls.

I just love the idea that I turned exactly 3 decades old here.

Burger Madness

Mike has been cooking some amazing burgers. We have found the secret is to buy the beef fresh and heat up a cast iron pan. Use plenty of butter to get a nice burnt crisp on the outer edges. add various burger toppin's and burger bliss awaits you.

Here was our last burger burn. Delicious!!

Digital Hands

My good friend Mike knows me all too well. He ordered these for me for my birthday.
He told me that as soon as he saw them they were something that I would have or would want.

April 28th 2011. Base theater, Travis AFB. This was for the teen talent show. I had volunteered to help with this event. I went total remote. I had an ipod to play back the kids terrible choice in karaoke music. And the LS9 stage mix app on the ipad controlling the terrible music they made with it.

I've had Beiber tunes in my head ever since.

Fat Lip

Brandon has had a bit of bad luck with his health whenever we go on the road. He broke his foot once while we were out. This time he ended up getting a root canal while we were in Idaho. He had some other dental work done when we got back home.

Here he is after a procedure. Notice the fat lip on the left side. I couldn't help staring.

Beach View

Mel and I went down to San Francisco after the tour in Idaho. We went to an Irish benefit, were I was a lost puppy that didn't belong. We went to the beach the next day.

This was a really interesting view from China beach in San Francisco. Notice how the fog is perfectly blocking what would be an otherwise amazing view of the Golden Gate bridge.

Coeur d'Alene Geocaching

On the most recent tour I was on we stayed at a really nice hotel in Coeur d'Alene Idaho.

There was a right on the lake. Forget lakeside this is lake -on. (Thanks Mitch Hedberg) There was also a great trail right next to said lake. Of course I go geocaching.

These were some really great caches. Away from crowds. Really big and full of fun stuff.

Most were like the one above. Ammo cans hidden under really large rocks. I also had a rare perfect outing. I found everyone I went looking for. It could have been because there was no one around and I didn't mind looking in every little place I could. Or I could be getting better at geocaching. But I don't want to get ahead of myself.

Here is a great view of the lake from atop a large boulder. My feet dangling of the edge.
